Mark Glenshaw, aka The Owlman of Forest Park, has generously agreed to lead a group of 10 to 15 curious "naturalists" on an owl prowl next Sunday, January 30th starting at 4:00pm. See my post here to learn more about Mark and his five year study of a pair of Great Horned Owls, "Charles" and "Sarah," who inhabit Forest Park. Rendezvous Sunday afternoon by the flagpole at The Boathouse on Wells Drive in Forest Park. Mark will lead us from there over to the wooded area where the Great Horned Owls reside.
Mark sent along tips on what to bring and how to dress:
- Wear dark clothing, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WHITE! Layers, layers for the cold weather. These days, long underwear, warm hats and gloves, warm everything is a must. Bring binoculars if you have them.
- At sunset the temperature will go down noticeably.
- A lot of owl prowling is spent standing still, so wear clothes that will keep you warm when you are not moving.
- A thermos of hot tea, coffee or chocolate can be a huge aid.
If you are interested in joining us, please send an email asap to nickisbuzz@gmail.com and let me know. Space is limited and filling up fast (sorry, as of Thurs. morning, we have enough owl prowlers)! If you are able to join us and would like to make a donation online to Forest Park Forever mentioning Mark Glenshaw and the owl prowl, he would appreciate it. Totally up to you however...www.forestparkforever.org.
