The public is invited to a lecture on Forest Park's Great Horned Owls sponsored by the St. Louis Audubon Society on Tuesday, January 18 at 7 p.m. at the Forest Park Visitor's Center. Mark Glenshaw, the Owlman of Forest Park, is the speaker. You may remember Mark from my recent post on the Barred Owl who fell through a chimney on Westmoreland Place just before Christmas.
Mark has been observing a pair of Great Horned Owls, whom he has named Charles and Sarah, for over 4 years in Forest Park. Mark's photo of one of the pair's owlets is shown above. After seeing my earlier post, Mark offered to lead a group of interested neighbors on an "owl prowl," so stay tuned, details are in the works. Meanwhile, come to the Dennis & Judith Jones Visitor Center to see Mark's photos of Charles and Sarah and to hear his interesting tales about the Great Horned Owls' habits and behaviors while raising their yearly broods. By the end of the evening, you'll understand Mark's fascination with these amazing predators.
