Early this morning as I was wandering around BJC on an unrelated mission, I stumbled across the newly-opened landscaped plaza and water feature designed by world-renowned architect Maya Lin in partnership with Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates. The plaza has been under construction and hidden behind a barricade since March, so it was such a pleasure to finally find it accessible, especially on this very hot day.
At nearly 80 feet in diameter, the infinity pool features a platform that includes fiber-optic lighting designed to look like twinkling stars at night.
A few lines of Emily Dickenson's poem "Hope" are cut into the rim of the platform, shown above and below.
Funding for the pool was donated by the Robert G. Clark family in memory of "the indominitable spirit of Ellen." It's a stunning memorial.
